QAR 6000 Salary Gratuity in Qatar (2026): Why Your Allowances Don’t Count
Your QAR 6000 salary gratuity is QAR 21,000 after 5 years and QAR 42,000 after 10 years — provided QAR 6,000 is genuinely your basic salary, not your total monthly package.
That distinction is where most people on this salary bracket get their number wrong. If you’re earning a total of QAR 9,000 or QAR 9,500 a month and assumed your gratuity is based on that full figure, the real number is meaningfully lower. Here’s exactly how it works, and why.
How QAR 6000 Gratuity Is Calculated
Qatar’s end-of-service gratuity is set out in Article 54 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. Every employee who completes at least one year of continuous service is entitled to a minimum of three weeks’ basic salary (21 days) for every year worked — a flat rate, with no increase after year five.
Step 1 — Daily wage QAR 6,000 ÷ 30 = QAR 200 per day
Step 2 — Multiply by 21 days, then by years of service QAR 200 × 21 × years = your gratuity
There is no tier change after five years like in the UAE. Qatar pays the same 21-day rate for year one and year twenty.
QAR 6000 Gratuity by Years of Service
| Years of Service | Calculation | Gratuity |
|---|---|---|
| 1 year | 200 × 21 × 1 | QAR 4,200 |
| 2 years | 200 × 21 × 2 | QAR 8,400 |
| 3 years | 200 × 21 × 3 | QAR 12,600 |
| 5 years | 200 × 21 × 5 | QAR 21,000 |
| 7 years | 200 × 21 × 7 | QAR 29,400 |
| 10 years | 200 × 21 × 10 | QAR 42,000 |
| 15 years | 200 × 21 × 15 | QAR 63,000 |
| 20 years | 200 × 21 × 20 | QAR 84,000 |
Under one year of continuous service, no statutory gratuity is owed. Partial years beyond your first full year are paid pro rata — six months on top of two full years adds roughly QAR 2,100 on this salary.
Why Your Allowances Don’t Count Toward This Number
This is the single most expensive misunderstanding at the QAR 6,000 bracket. A typical package at this level looks like:
- Basic salary: QAR 6,000
- Housing allowance: QAR 2,000
- Transport allowance: QAR 1,000
- Other allowances: QAR 500
- Total package: QAR 9,500
Article 54 is explicit that gratuity is calculated on basic salary only. Housing, transport, and any other allowance — however large, and however consistently paid — are excluded entirely.

If you entered QAR 9,500 into a gratuity calculator instead of QAR 6,000, your 5-year figure would come out at roughly QAR 33,250 — about 58% higher than the real QAR 21,000 you’re actually owed. That gap is exactly the kind of number that causes disputes in the final settlement meeting, because the employee is expecting an amount their contract never promised.
Check your offer letter or contract, not your bank statement. The figure you need is the one explicitly labelled “basic salary” — not net pay, not gross pay, not your total package.
Does Resigning Reduce This Amount?
No. Under Qatar’s current labour law, resignation and termination are treated identically once you’ve completed one year of continuous service. There is no reduction scale for resigning early, unlike the older rules some neighbouring countries still apply in parts of their system. If you resign after five years on a QAR 6,000 basic salary, you are still owed the full QAR 21,000 — the same as if your employer had ended the contract.
What can reduce what actually reaches your account is a separate matter: payment in lieu of an unserved notice period, or any lawful deduction your employer is entitled to make (an outstanding loan, unreturned company property). Your gratuity entitlement itself is unaffected by how the job ended.
What Happens If You Leave Before Completing One Year?
Nothing — no statutory gratuity is due. This is worth being deliberate about if you’re weighing an exit around the 10–12 month mark. Someone who leaves at month 11 on this salary receives QAR 0. One month later, at month 12, they’re owed QAR 4,200. That’s not a rounding difference; it’s the entire first year’s entitlement sitting on the other side of a four-week wait.
Common Mistakes at This Salary Level
- Entering total package instead of basic salary — covered above, and the most costly by far
- Using the joining date of your most recent contract renewal instead of your original start date — renewals count as continuous service, not a reset
- Assuming resignation cuts the amount — it doesn’t, under current law
- Rounding down partial years — 3 years and 7 months is not 3 years; the extra months are paid proportionally
- Forgetting notice pay deductions — if you leave without serving your notice period, that amount is deducted from your final settlement, separate from the gratuity calculation itself

The numbers above assume a clean QAR 6,000 basic salary with no unpaid leave and no deductions. If your salary was revised partway through your employment, or you took unpaid leave, your actual figure will differ slightly from the table.

Qatar Gratuity Calculator FAQs
Is QAR 6,000 basic salary enough to get a meaningful gratuity?
Yes. At QAR 6,000 basic, five years of service earns QAR 21,000 and ten years earns QAR 42,000 — a significant sum even without allowances included.
Does my QAR 6,000 gratuity include housing and transport allowances?
No. Gratuity in Qatar is calculated on basic salary only. Housing, transport, and other allowances are excluded under Article 54, regardless of how large they are.
What if my basic salary changed during my employment?
Use the basic salary that applied on your last working day, not an earlier or average figure. If your salary was revised, the calculation uses your final rate.
Do I lose part of my gratuity if I resign instead of being terminated?
No. Qatar’s current labour law applies the same 21-day rate whether you resign or your employer ends the contract, as long as you’ve completed one year of continuous service.
How is the daily wage worked out?
Basic salary is divided by 30 to get a daily rate, which is then multiplied by 21 days for every year of service.
What happens to unpaid leave days?
Unpaid leave is deducted from your service period before the calculation is run, which reduces your total gratuity slightly.
