AED 9000 salary gratuity UAE showing AED 12,600 after 2 years, AED 31,500 after 5 years and AED 76,500 after 10 years

AED 9,000 Salary Gratuity in UAE (2026): Why Your Last Raise Counts Backwards

Your AED 9000 salary gratuity is AED 31,500 after five years and AED 76,500 after ten.
There’s something specific about this salary level worth knowing: a lot of people reach AED 9,000 through a raise rather than starting there. And if that’s you, the raise doesn’t just apply going forward — it applies to every year you’ve already worked.
That single rule can be worth more than a year of accrual.

Quick Answer

Daily wage: AED 9,000 ÷ 30 = AED 300

Years of serviceGratuity
1 yearAED 6,300
2 yearsAED 12,600
3 yearsAED 18,900
4 yearsAED 25,200
5 yearsAED 31,500
6 yearsAED 40,500

8 yearsAED 58,500
10 yearsAED 76,500
15 yearsAED 121,500

Each of your first five years adds AED 6,300. From year six, each adds AED 9,000.

The Last Salary Rule

Article 51 calculates gratuity on your last basic salary — not an average, not the salary you were on when each year was worked.

So if you spent six years on AED 6,000 basic and were raised to AED 9,000 in your final year, all seven years are calculated at AED 9,000.

Basis usedSeven-year gratuity
AED 6,000 (starting salary)AED 33,000
Averaged across the periodAED 38,500
AED 9,000 (last salary)AED 49,500

Only the last one is correct. The gap between it and the starting-salary figure is AED 16,500 — from a single raise.

This works the other way too. If your basic was reduced before you left, the lower figure applies. Where a reduction happened shortly before an exit, it’s worth checking whether you agreed to it in writing.

What This Means Practically

Three situations where this rule changes a decision.

You’re due a review and thinking of leaving

If a raise is likely within the next few months, waiting for it may be worth more than the months of accrual you’d add.

On seven years of service, moving from AED 8,000 to AED 9,000 basic adds AED 5,500 to your gratuity — instantly, across all seven years. Seven months of extra service at AED 8,000 would add about AED 3,267.

You’re negotiating a raise anyway

Ask for it on basic salary, not on allowances. An extra AED 1,000 in housing allowance is worth AED 12,000 a year to you and nothing at all to your gratuity. The same AED 1,000 on basic adds to every year you’ve worked.

At this salary level that argument is easy to make and costs your employer nothing extra in monthly terms.

Your employer used the wrong figure

If your settlement was calculated on an older salary, that’s a straightforward error. Ask which basic salary they applied and on what date it was recorded.

Part Years Count in Proportion

ServiceGratuity
1 year 6 monthsAED 9,450
2 years 3 monthsAED 14,175
3 years 6 monthsAED 22,050
4 years 8 monthsAED 29,400
5 years 6 monthsAED 36,000
7 years 4 monthsAED 52,500

Below twelve months, nothing is payable.

Is AED 9,000 Your Basic or Your Package?

If it’s your total package with AED 5,500 basic and the rest in allowances, five years pays AED 19,250, not AED 31,500.

Check the line in your MOHRE labour contract that says “basic salary.” Housing, transport, commission and overtime are all excluded. Our AED 10,000 breakdown covers the package split in more detail.

What Reduces the Payout

Unpaid leave. Each unpaid day costs AED 17.26 in years one to five, and AED 24.66 after that. Full breakdown of unpaid leave here.

Notice you don’t serve. Your employer may deduct payment in lieu — a full month is AED 9,000 at this salary.

The ceiling. Two years’ basic salary — AED 216,000, reached at about 25½ years.

Wrong start date. Contract renewals don’t reset your service, but employers sometimes count from the latest one.

Resigning Doesn’t Reduce It

The one-third and two-thirds resignation scale belonged to Federal Law No. 8 of 1980, repealed in February 2022. Under the current law, resignation and termination pay identically, and contract type makes no difference.

At seven years on AED 9,000 basic, you receive AED 49,500 either way.

DIFC and ADGM

DIFC uses DEWS — 5.83% of basic salary monthly for the first five years, 8.33% after. You receive the accumulated fund. Note the last-salary rule doesn’t apply there: DEWS contributions are made at whatever your salary was each month, so a late raise doesn’t apply retroactively.

That’s a genuine difference. On the mainland a final raise lifts your whole entitlement. Under DEWS it only lifts future contributions.

ADGM runs its own approved savings schemes. All other free zones use the standard calculation.

When You Should Be Paid

Within 14 days of your contract ending, under Article 53. Ask for the settlement itemised — the basic salary used, service dates, days per band, and every deduction.
